Reed Gold Mine

My several-greats-back uncle, Conrad Reed, discovered the first gold in America in 1799; so we took the kids over to see part of their legacy at the Reed Gold Mine historic site. (They were disappointed when they couldn't find any big nuggets on their own. ;-))

At the mine entrance:

I was so glad Grandaddo suggested us driving out there! It's been years & years since I went last, but it hasn't changed a bit. The scent underground sent me right back to our 5th grade field trip. ;-) I did a geneology project in middle school I titled "From the Golden Doorstop to Me" tracing me back to Conrad that was on display at the museum for years, as well. I love showing the kids our deep family roots here. :-)
