Costume Party

My BFF, Angie, had a costume party this last Saturday to celebrate earning her college degree. :-) We LOOOVED having the excuse to dress up!!! Can you believe I've never had a dirndl (German dress) costume before???

This is what happens with cheer people at a party... Who says stunting is only for the girls??? :-D

"Uma Thurman" & "Jump Around" (JOINT!) Cheer Dances

We scored another great win back on October 17th for the second time this season vs. the Giants. We did our halftime dance to Fall Out Boy's "Uma Thurman" (please ignore me coaching in the corner!!! ugh! :-P)

We then braved the rain (and a game that literally started at dawn - pic proof below!) on Saturday, October 24th to beat the Broncos in our regular season. (We did beat them preseason, too.)

My BFF, Angie, is the head cheer coach for the Broncos, and last month, we decided to choreograph & do a joint halftime dance together when we played each other. It was AWESOME!!! We had our individual squad practice Monday & then a joint practice Thursday. This video has the dance from BOTH sidelines, Falcons first, then Broncos. (I don't know why YouTube stretched the aspect ratio, but anyway...)

So proud of their teamwork & camaraderie!

Will's First Choir Concert

Will sang in his first junior high choir concert last Thursday, the 22nd. It definitely brought back a flood of memories for me! (He's 2nd in from the left on the middle row.)

"Keep Your Lamps Trimmed & Burnin'" (Will's favorite :-))

October News - *NOT* a Football Post! :-D

While the biggest part of our family life is focused on football & cheer these days, I'll attempt to round out the current snapshot of our lives here with "everything else." ;-)

* I loooooooooooove almost everything pumpkin-flavored in the fall! (Except, no: I don't drink Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes. I don't drink coffee - only tea! Mmmmmm, chai...) My beloved Trader Joe's has the BEST pumpkin-themed food selection on EARTH, and my ABSOLUTE fave this year are Ginger Pumpkin Mini Mouthfuls:
Delish pumpkin ice cream sandwiched b/t two spicy (& slightly salty) soft ginger cookies = BLISS! My other most fave pumpkin fare: Pumpkin O's cereal!

* OK, so this *IS* a little bit cheer: my Cheer Committee ladies have truly become my BFFs here, and the best part? Our husbands all enjoy hanging out together, too! (Y'all *know* that can be a social hurdle!) Here we are at one of the husbands' bday party:
(Cutest photobomb ever!)

* The kids went to one of our cheerleaders' 80's-themed bday party at the skating rink! Ah, memories... ;-)

* Annelise found out she got a big speaking part in her 4th Grade Musical next month!

* HUGE PRAISE REPORT: my gym friend, who beat stage 4 cancer last year, had it come back suddenly & unexpectedly in her BRAIN four months ago. She found out after she felt dizzy in my Zumba class, walked out, (I didn't know - I thought she had gone to the bathroom or just had to leave early,) and then had a seizure, which it turns out was caused by her brain tumor! (I didn't find out until waaaaay later.) Where's the praise? She was BACK at Zumba last Wednesday with totally clear scans!!! THANK YOU, GOD!!!

* Annelise & I got our flu shots at Target, no problem. However, the next day when we went to get Will's...we had to leave after making the pharmacist sit there while he SCREAMED FOR 30 MINUTES -- with NO FLU SHOT! (He's *always* been like this; but he got his at Target last year - not "fun" but not this!!!) I was livid & mortified... I tried everything kind, benevolent, & finally strict, and I can't even hold him down, anymore - he's too big. I know this sounds stupid, but we were both so traumatized... I had JB take him several days later...AND HE DIDN'T PITCH A FIT AT ALL. :-O Guess who has a new job FOREVER? Congrats, Honey!!! Blood work coming up in a couple weeks, and at least I'm off the hook now! :-P

* I was called for my VERY FIRST jury duty last week! I couldn't decide if I was excitedly proud to execute my civic privilege...or if it was a boring chore. :-P We were supposed to have five cases, and none of them made it to jury trial! 2 pled guilty, 1 settled, & 2 defendants didn't show, so they now have arrest warrants! The judge was so entertaining & informative while we waited on the last case to decide if they wanted to go to trial - he answered all sorts of questions about speeding tickets & other legal fun facts. It was actually fascinating! And I even beat the kids home from school, (although JB was here. ;-))

* Will had his first choir concert! Dedicated post coming...

"Feel It" Cheer Dance & Falcons vs. Texans

Here's our dance to tobyMac's "Feel It" from our Oct 10th win vs. the Texans in action! I'm so proud of those pom hearts (they were NOT easy!) and how good those ripples look:

Fantastic shots from the game! (For some reason, our unofficial "pro" team photog fam barely got any action shots of Will this week, but they sure did of cheer! :-D)

Will was hit hard in the back on the second-to-last play of the game, and I kind of love that they captured his face as his two coaches carried him off the field. He was *FINE* five minutes later and did the "Whip/Nae Nae" victory dance with the whole team to celebrate, so no worries!!!!!

Great Game Pics from Oct 3

Fabulous shots from Oct 3rd vs. the Panthers for the first time this season, defensive end Will Blake = #24:

This was the week we redid our original Falcons signature piece from our first season together two years ago: "Drumline". (Annelise is the flyer on the left.) We made the stunts way harder, the ripples twice as fast, and the kick line even looked better:

Great Game Pics from Sept 26

Y'all *know* I can't stand things out of chronological order, but the family that takes the fabulous game pics with their pro camera just shared the shots from Sept 26 - Oct 10, so get ready for football overload the next few days!!! :-P

From Sept 26th vs. the Cowboys for the second time this season, defensive end Will Blake = #24:

This was the week we did tobyMac's new title track, "This Is Not A Test" for halftime, where we opened with Annelise flying in the superman stunt we learned at the University of Houston Cheer Clinic:
