The Greatest Showman to the Rescue

Annelise’s current favorite movie, “The Greatest Showman,” was showing for free outdoors in a beautifully manicured green space at sunset on a lovely, thankfully-breezy Saturday evening! We invited & met two of her school BFFs there, with whom she shares no classes this year & desperately misses - it’s the 1st school year she’s been “shook” (as the kids say :-P) re: not seeing friends. Girl emotions & tears are firing up over here, so the fact that I was actually able to help make a junior high friend problem better by orchestrating this happy meet-up? That’s HUGE. (I mean, how often can a parent actually “fix” this kind of stuff?!)

They had a petting zoo before sunset with a llama who snuggled Annelise & a wallaby who reached out to hold my hand:

The whole evening was absolutely delightful! The sunset was incredible, all the twinkling lights in the trees were pure magic, singing at the top of our lungs is our favorite, we love animals sooo much - that wallaby stole my heart, it was all *free,* and it blessed me immeasurably to actually be able to make a junior high girl problem better. Lord, let’s keep this emotional powder keg-diffusing roll going strong together! Amen. (We’re 3 for 3 so far in the last week...)

  1. This looks like such a fun night with friends!! Way to go, Mama!!

Laughing that you used "shook" ~ it makes my girls a little crazy when I use their lingo, like I'm so "extra!!" :)

    1. HAAAA!!! Yes! I totally debated whether or not to put shook in quotes, because I didn’t want to sound dorky, but I didn’t want to be extra, either. 🤣

  2. It does soothe a mama's heart when we can "fix" our children's problems, doesn't it? It seems that as they get older, we have less power to do it. I'm so glad that you were able to provide this wonderful evening for your daughter!

    1. You are exactly right, that the older they get, the less easy it is for our involvement to fix it any way. I’m constantly praying these days for God to show me when to actively try to help and when to back off and let Him work through them on His own.
