Cheer Update

RINGS RINGS RINGS!!! Annelise’s 2019-2020 allstar cheer team, Legacy, won rings *AND* the High Point Champion title out of all the teams in every level at their entire first cheer competition:

Backstory: it’s an extremely different cheer year. There are only 3 people left from last season, and there are literally only 7 total on her team. (SEVEN. She also competed on small teams the last 3 years...but with 20!) She’s competing at a lower level instead of moving up, b/c there weren’t enough people left with her skills to make a higher team. That’s extremely disappointing, as she’s not gaining new skills or even using some from last year; but it’s giving her a very easy year, personally. She’s not flying, b/c she’s one of the biggest girls left, which absolutely breaks my heart (I was furious, honestly; but I couldn’t control who came & went, so...) but she’s their tumbling star, which is nice. There are a couple other girls who came from higher levels with her, so to have them cheering down & elevating the new girls, they *should* be strong enough to win pretty often this season.

We agreed that this will be her last year at this gym: unless they can provide a higher-level experience like the previous owners did, she has officially outgrown it. If their focus is only going to be on beginners, that’s not her. So Legacy is the perfect team name to go out on this final season! While she’s not being challenged, I’m still thankful she’s not just taking a year off, I’m extra thankful that she’s *HAPPY* to be there & go to practice (b/c it’s easier, but I digress...) and that all of the girls get along drama-free (a big change from last year! (Annelise didn’t have any personal problems, but several of the 20 did, & it turned toxic! #teengirlscanbeevil))

What’s next? She still has 4 full months of comps with Legacy through her birthday weekend the end of April...but she *DID* mention several times on her own lately trying out for high school cheer in March! I have tried sooo hard to stay 100% out of it, b/c I don’t want to push her that way... but oh, what an answer to prayer that would be!!! Cheaper than allstar, a logical non-emotional pretext for not returning to the current allstar gym, & high school even still competes! She could possibly even fly, again, in high school, if she gets herself in gear. We’ll see...

As with everything, we’re constantly praying for God to work everything out for our best according to His plan...and heaven knows, this year my perceived preferences have certainly not aligned with His in multiple regards!!!!! Until then, we’ll finish strong with Legacy - no chance of going to Summit this year, b/c the new gym owners also decided to go to no major competitions this season that qualify to earn Summit bids. Yeah. :-/ But maybe that means Legacy can run the table & win every smaller comp to feel accomplished, b/c there wasn’t a lot of winning last year, and while winning isn’t everything, it sure does feel good!!! Proof positive with those rings at their first comp! ;-) Next two: later in January...

  1. Wow - sounds like a different cheer year for sure!! So glad to hear, though, that she's enjoying it, and I'm sure it's nice to have a break from the high pressure and drama situations. Congratulations on the win!!!

My younger daughter has a new cheer coach this year. Thankfully she likes her a lot - and, like you, it's been a fairly drama-free year, which is always a plus!!
